Learn to Swim Options:

For Learn-to-Swim Options: If your child is in the early stages of learning to swim and requires foundational instruction, we recommend exploring alternative learn-to-swim programs in the community. These programs are specifically tailored to beginners, offering the foundational skills necessary for water safety and confidence.

Questions and Assistance: Should you have any questions or require assistance in finding suitable learn-to-swim programs, please feel free to reach out to Virginia Smith, Mini Marlins by email at [email protected]. We are more than happy to provide guidance and support to ensure your child's swimming journey aligns with their current skill level and needs.

Age and Requirements:

To ensure the effectiveness and safety of the Memorial Northwest Mini Marlins program, we have updated the eligibility criteria for participants. Please take note of the following requirements:

  • Age Requirement: The Mini Marlins program is open to children ages 4 and up as of May 1st. We believe this age range aligns with the developmental readiness for the program's activities.
    • Special Consideration for 3-Year-Olds: We understand that each child is unique, and we are open to evaluating 3-year-olds on a case-by-case basis. If you have a 3-year-old interested in the program, please contact us to arrange an evaluation prior to registration. This ensures that the child's readiness and comfort level in the water can be assessed to determine their eligibility for the Mini Marlins program.
  • Independent Entry/Exit to Pool: Swimmers must be capable of entering the pool independently, whether by jumping in, diving, or sitting on the edge. Additionally, swimmers must be able to exit the pool on their own either by lifting themselves over the side of pool, bulkhead or swimming to the stair or ladder. This independence is a crucial prerequisite for participation.
  • Comfortable Solo Pool Time: Participants must be able to enjoy time in the pool without the need for assistance. If a swimmer relies on a human body nearby for comfort, or if they wear floaties, the Mini Marlins program is not a fit for your child.
  • Underwater Proficiency: Swimmers should be able to confidently go underwater, demonstrating a level of comfort and familiarity with submersion.
  • Ability to Follow Directions: The program requires participants to be capable of following directions. This skill is essential for a positive and productive learning environment.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring that each participant receives the most appropriate instruction for their stage of development.
